Gander Slu
http://ganderslu.com/ North Texas’ Gander Slu are a self proclaimed band from “north of nowhere” due to the fact that the band members reside in small north Texas towns located between the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex and the Red River. But don’t be fooled, this is not just another “Red Dirt” band. Gander Slu’s sound is as diverse as the great state of Texas itself with influences in the classic county sound found on the plains of west Texas to the soaring alternative rock scene found in Austin. Gander Slu refuses to be slotted into any single music genre. The foundation of Gander Slu is the classic soulful voice of Jordan Barta who draws lofty comparisons with the likes of Patsy Cline & Dolly Parton to Ashley Monroe & Stevie Nicks. Teaming with fellow songwriter Eric Stark (guitars / vocals) this songwriting duo tell real, heartfelt and honest stories of love, loss, joy, and pain of a life lived to its fullest. With songs like West Texas that describe Eric’s childhood growing up in the small dusty oilfield town of west Texas to Jordan’s heartbreaking ballad, This Old House, in which Barta tells of the family’s homestead in Tioga, Texas that was destroyed after an arsonist set it ablaze in October 2015. Stark and Barta do not pull any punches when it comes to expressing truth and the raw emotion of life. Rounding out the Gander Slu sound is Stefan Wright on guitars and vocals, Scooter Stanley on Bass and Sammy Lawson on percussion. In an ever changing Texas music landscape that is evolving back to its roots, Gander Slu is bringing a much welcomed and honest departure from the beer drinking bon fire anthems that leave you feeling as empty and hung over as the parties these songs glorify.
