Jose Salazar
I grew up in Flatonia, Texas, a little town midway between San Antonio and Houston. I was raised on a cattle ranch so to say the least there was alot of interacting with horses, cattle, dogs etc amongst farming as well. Ever since I was a kid I knew I wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up. So after high school I attended Texas A&M to start on the path of an intense curriculum to try and achieve my lifelong ambition. Little did I know that my interest in music would lead me to actually pick up a guitar and attempt to learn how to play the thing! lol I did so after going to live concerts in College Station during my undergraduate career and seeing the interaction between a band/artist and the crowd. Particularly, it was a Randy Rogers band concert that pushed me over the edge to go buy the guitar. Anyhow, I began teaching myself during graduate school and within a year we had formed a band called Broke 60. I came up with the name simply as a way to bluntly describe our financial status and include the highway name we drove out on to practice. Since then business seemed to pick up, with highs and lows of course, however I managed to continue playing throughout graduate school and veterinary school. I have opened for artists like Cory Morrow, Brandon Rhyder, Casey Donahue, No Justice, John Anderson, Josh Abbott, Aaron Watson, Roger Creager amonst others along the way. This past year after graduating from Texas A&M Vet School I decided it was time to record some of my own songs professionally with Mr. Billy Hillman over at Hilltrax Studio in Huntsville, Tx. We came up with a 5 song cd for my first project and will have cd's for sale by June 1, 2012. I hope that you will buy my music, tell a friend, and come out to see the band and I. You can keep up with shows and news etc via facebook. Go "like" our Broke 60 band page and feel free to add me on facebook as well. The band and I look forward to hearing from or meeting you in the future and already can't wait to get back in the studio to work another project!!
