The Texas ContinentalsMark Zepeda and Greg Cummings started practicing together in 2015 with plans to work as a 2 piece group, playing a variety of music. Mark's plan had also always been to again play with his older brother, Orlando Zepeda, but due to both raising families, church Music Ministry obligations and the fact that they lived 120 miles apart, they were not sure when that would ever happen. As Mark and Greg were rehearsing they talked about expanding the duet and added drummer John Hand and Mark's daughter, Sarah Zepeda. After discussing the group with Orlando, Orlando and Mark decided it was time to try to play together again. So, Orlando and his son Orlando (Orly) were added to the band.
The band was complete and we needed a name. Mark and Orlando's father, Ernest Zepeda, had a great run playing in the Victoria area from the 1960's until the early 1980's. His band's name was Ernest and the Continentals. As a way to honor Ernest, the name The Texas Continentals was chosen. Although the original logo design was Mark Z's idea, the actual logo was designed by Mark Shoemake.
We had our first gig in October 2016 at Dodge City in Victoria, TX.
The band is made up of the following:
Mark Zepeda - vocals, acoustic guitar, keyboard
Orlando Zepeda - vocals, lead/rhythm guitar, keyboard
Greg Cummings - bass guitar, vocals
John Hand - drums
Orlando (Orly) Zepeda - lead guitar, rhythm guitar, vocals
Sarah Zepeda - vocals, flute, percussion
We emphasize vocals in our music and with 5 singers we are able to cover a wide variety of music. Come check us out and we hope you will consider us for your dance/party needs.
