The SCHS, founded in 1960, is an affiliate of the Wyoming State Historical Society. Dedicated to the historical preservation and appreciation, the SCHS maintained the Trail End Historic Mansion throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. After gifting the building and grounds to the State of Wyoming, the SCHS partnered with the Sheridan Heritage Center at the Sheridan Inn to develop exhibits and display artifacts. This partnership continued from the early 1990s until the opening of the Sheridan County Museum in 2004.
