There are musicians and there are entertainers. But it is a true
phenomenon when a really great musician is a great entertainer.
This is a rare symmetry.
The singer, the horn player, the dynamic stage persona never fail to
have GG’s audiences begging for more. He reaches down deep, pulling
his audience with him to very soul of his music, where heart and sound
collide. GG knows music like every artist knows his medium. And he
truly loves to perform it.
In 1956, GG played with his first band, “The Flat Tops” in Franklin,
La., his home town. In 1963, he joined the “Boogie Kings” and his
professional career began. It was while playing in clubs in Nevada that
an awakening happened in GG. He began to observe the professional
entertainers. He studied their moves and finessed the artistry of the
“entertainer” which was innate in himself. From that time on, GG’s
performances with the “Boogie Kings” became musical history. Their
album recorded in 1965 is now a collector’s item.
In 1966, GG formed his band, “The Roller Coasters”, the rave of the
60’s and 70’s, and recorded two R & B albums. GG and the band
traveled all over the USA, from California to Florida, from Chicago
to Galveston, sometimes performing 7 nights a week.
