The Teeter Twins
“I saw first light in Lubbock, Texas; the family didn’t stay long. Then too many towns in Oklahoma, to know where to call home…” These first few lines, from Aubrey Teeter’s song “Wanderin’ Soul”, neatly sum up the twins youth. Born in Lubbock, TX in 1960, their family moved to Oklahoma when they were only three months old. And moved. And moved. And then moved some more. The talented songwriters/vocalists grew up in an environment strongly influenced by music. Their father, to keep three young boys out of trouble while on family trips would sing the songs of his favorite country artist, Hank Williams. Their mother, who loved Elvis, would turn on the radio and also encourage her sons to sing. By the age of five, with their Roy Rogers guitars firmly in hand, the twins knew that more than anything else, they wanted to be entertainers. Cutting their teeth on those early sounds of true country and rock ‘n roll, they set out at a young age to share that dream with the world. Entertaining audiences all through high school, the twins sang every chance they got. From local television shows, to the Oklahoma Opry, the two were a powerful duet and successful stage act. After graduation, Aubrey enrolled and attended Oklahoma City University, majoring in Vocal Performance. Aubrey began performing in college Opera’s and Musicals, and acted in lead roles in Community Theaters. His strength in music grew as he developed his talents as a lead vocal in Country Rock and Top 40 Bands, and as an entertainer with Opryland on the road. Where Aubrey went to college to study Opera, Audey felt his honky-tonk blood boiling and went to college to study country music at now Rogers State College in Claremore, OK. Audey performed twice with Opryland, once in Branson, MO in 1981 and at the Nashville theme park in 1987. Between which, he played with many bands in Oklahoma from Claremore to Oklahoma City to Chickasha. He even played with a band while living in Celaya, Mexico…..but that’s another story! After college Aubrey made the next logical move, to Nashville, with his wife and young daughter getting into the business side of music for most of the 12 years he lived there. He went on the road for two years with Pearl River, as stage manager. He worked with Alan Jackson’s management company and finally as a Song Plugger on Music Row. All the while still pursuing his own music career, Aubrey shared the stage, and shared guitars, with such artists as Garth Brooks, Guy Clark, Vern Gosdin, Bryan White, Pearl River, Toby Keith, and Reece Wilson, just to name a few. With vision and simplicity, this sensitive young man reached into his soul, and found a love of writing. Aubrey honed his songwriting skills by writing with, and learning from, some of the most well known names in Country Music. “I write and sing about the things I know about, the things I love,” Aubrey says. “My songs are a part of me; they are real life for me. Each song has a special meaning and its own story.” Like Aubrey, after college Audey, along with his wife and young son, moved to Nashville. After struggling for about a year, he decided to try the business side of music and went to college where he obtained a degree in Recording Industry Management. While there he interned with the A&R Department at Warner Bros. Records and Capital Records. As luck would have it, he landed his first fulltime music business job with Warner Bros. after college in the Publicity Department. Audey was soon working at Glen Campbell Music as a song publisher and later, he went to work for the publishing company Beldon Enterprise. While working there, Audey also sang back up for Loretta Lynn and had the opportunity to work with Doug Stone as Merchandise Salesman and later as his Road Manager. Arriving back in Texas, in early 1997, Aubrey found that the Texas music scene is alive with promise for original singer/songwriters, and he quickly made a name for himself. As Aubrey now sings his original music, the words he sings and the powerful voice behind them, silences crowds and finally has given him the satisfaction he always knew was waiting for him. A couple years after Aubrey came back to Texas, Audey saw that the business side of Nashville was slowing down. He had an itch to get closer to home and his family and with the help of their younger brother, Tim, Audey made a career change and got a job at Microsoft. With an infant daughter and teenage son, Audey and his wife Donna took the plunge and moved to Texas. True, it looks like Audey just followed Aubrey around the country, and there might be some cosmic twin thing going on there, who knows, but the two hooked up again. Aubrey and Audey still sing together as an act all over the D/FW area, in between work and family, wowing audiences with their amazing harmony. They saw first light in Lubbock, Texas and have now come full circle to where it all began for them.
