Whiskeyfish, born and raised in Van Zandt County, started out as two brothers, Matt and J.P. Fisher, who loved to play guitar, write songs, and then turn around and sing those songs and play those guitars for family and friends. Later on, drummer Jonathon Wilson came to know Matt and became good friends. Matt asked Jonathon at a party one night to sit in and play the drums while he played guitar for a very modest crowd. After that, the three of them, J.P, Matt, and Jon (known as the J.P. Fisher Band) practiced only a couple songs to perform at their first ever show, The Colgate Country Showdown. Needless to say they were missing something, something to fill in the dead space in the music. Jacob Phillips, long time friend to J.P. and Matt, was asked to play bass for the band. Whilst the band was playing and having fun, no name was yet decided. Whiskeyfish was tossed around with a few other names, but ultimately was unanimously decided that Whiskeyfish was the name to be. The band has been playing around two years together now. Their debut CD, Sushi, will be released in just a few weeks once its back from the copying plant.
