QUEBE SISTERS BAND TO PERFORM AT EVENT BENEFITING TEXAS DANCE HALL PRESERVATION ORGANIZATION!
Texas Dance Hall Preservation (TDHP) is a non profit (501 c3) organization and its purpose is to promote and preserve historical Texas Dance Halls. In Texas there has been aggressive attempts to save our historical courthouses, lighthouses, churches, and other important buildings but not until now have we focused our attention on what may be some of the most iconic structures in the state. The Texas Dance Halls were many times one of the first buildings communities constructed. They served not as dance halls but also community meeting halls and social halls for political, cultural preservation, and many times a gathering place for the community’s survival. They are used for weddings, fund raising for churches, medical emergencies, fire stations and tons of other community based needs.
When it comes to the world famous "Texas Music" these halls were the catalyst and incubators for what is now known as the Texas Sound. Early bands that depended on these halls for existence include Bob Wills, Buddy Holly, George Jones, Elvis Presley, and later emerging artists such as George Straight, Selena, Kevin Fowler and more! Much of our indigenous music was developed in the storied halls, music such as Western Swing, Honky Tonk, Conjunto, Tejano, and Cajun/Zydeco.
TDHP’s first event of the 2012 season is a fund raiser at The Rattle Inn owned by Ray Benson, Grammy Award winning western swing band leader of Asleep at The Wheel. The event will feature the award winning, National Fiddle Champions and incredibly talented Western Swing sounds of The Quebe Sisters Band. The sisters feature three piece harmonies and are constant festival favorites across the country and abroad.
There will also be a silent auction featuring rare music memorabilia and other donated items. All proceeds benefit Texas Dance Hall Preservation Inc. and it's ongoing efforts to save our historical Texas Dance Halls.
